About our academics :

In Ho`ala's uniquely safe and effective school environment, students become fully alive in their learning, naturally leading to maximum creativity and exploration.

In the context of our college-prep curriculum, students are encouraged: to deepen their awareness of themselves, others, and their world; to think logically, creatively, and critically; and to reflect on how they can achieve meaning and purpose in their lives through empathethic learning.

At Ho`ala, students become fully alive in their learning.

Showcasing Ho`ala Student Work:
Ho`ala supports a K-12 college-preparatory curriculum that is innovative, interdisciplinary and integrative. Ho`ala's curriculum includes activities that go beyond the classroom and often benefit the wider community through project-based, service-centered learning.

Supporting Academic Success:

* THE HO`ALA AGREEMENT SYSTEM
By way of the simple but high congruent Ho`ala Agreement System, students, K-12, learn to understand and accept the repercussions of their own behaviors, without blaming others or oneself. This is a vital piece of Ho`ala education.

CONNECTING
Students in grades K-12 gather in small groups to "connect" each week. Students learn to rely on one another for emotional support and to problem solve as peers.

HO`ALA GATHERINGS
Each quarter, a class organizes an event for the entire community to celebrate a shared value such as "friendship," "gratitude" or "respect." Lively assemblies include music, dance and reflections and often focus on global issues.

MIXED-AGE NURTURING ACTIVITIES
Every other week, students in grades K-8 gather in mixed-aged groups to complete group projects that help them learn to rely on one another as community members.

CELEBRATIONS & HOLIDAYS
Given its nonsectarian and inclusive philosophy, Ho`ala students learned about and celebrate a wide variety of traditions and holidays.

SERVICE-CENTERED LEARNING
In partnership with various nonprofit and governmental agencies throughout Oahu, Ho`ala School is deeply invested in the benefits of service learning. Students at all grade levels have opportunities to serve the larger community through academic, afterschool and summer programs. (link to Camp Kokua)
